Places to Visit:
KORNATI
Kornati is an archipelago of 125 islets and reefs forming an elongated wall of sheer cliffs facing the open sea, the tallest of which is more than a hundred meters tall.
"The Kornati, a labyrinth of sea passages and islands, were formed from a cluster of white rocks that God was left with when He had created the world. He just dropped them into the sea, looked back and decided that no corrections were needed." (Folk legend)
Of the 152 Kornati Islands, 89 have been specially protected as part of the Croatian and World Heritage and proclaimed a national park. The sea world of the Kornati Islands abounds in fish and is an ideal place for fishing, diving and other watersports.
Famous for their uniqueness and beauty, the Kornati Islands are practically uninhabited. Only in the warmer parts of the year they become a temporary home for fishermen and farmers and as such are the perfect destination for those fond of holidaying in complete silence and tranquility.
If you would like to visit Kornati book in the evening for the next day at one of the numerous boats (you will see excursion boards in front) moored in the Vodice harbour. Alternatively, book through various local travel agencies (a booking fee might be charged).
KRKA
If you would like to experience something very special go for a swim under the waterfalls of Krka river. Clean fresh river water and untouched nature will make this an unforgattable adventure.
Krka National Park offers 4.5 km of beautiful promenades, beaches (Skradinski buk) and rest areas. In the upper course of the Krka River one can visit Visovac Islet, the Franciscan monastery and the waterfall Roški slap.
Same as Kornati, you can book a trip to Krka waterfalls at locally moored boats or travel agencies. To get there the boat ride will take two hours. Watch out for the change of the water coulours as the river meets the sea.
SIBENIK
Šibenik
County offers many attractions: the view from the sea towards the town of Šibenik
is striking: the entrance into the channel of St. Anna and the passage through
the castle of St. Nicholas. Walking down Gradina, the oldest part of Šibenik,
one can still feel the atmosphere of the Middle Ages, and walking further towards
other parts of town it is easy to notice just how the town grew and how the
building styles changed. The stylistic changes are also reflected on the most
significant building in Šibenik, the cathedral of St. Jacob, erected in the
fifteenth century and listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Register. It is an
architectural masterpiece of the synthesis of the Gothic and Renaissance architecture
accomplished by Juraj Dalmatinac, and completed by Nikola Firentinac.
Šibenik is 20 minutes by bus or 40 minutes by local bus-boat (80 pence/person) with stop-overs at two beautiful islands (good idea for exploring and trying out different beaches).
ZADAR
For centuries the capital city of Dalmatia and today the centre of the region Zadar is a city with a rich heritage. The Roman Forum from the 1st century and the Church of St. Donat from the 9th century, the famous medieval basilica are both worth a visit. While there, scroll down narrow cobbled streets and sit for a coffee and ice-cream in one of numerous old town’s cafés.
Zadar is one hour away by local bus.
SPLIT
Split is the largest Croatian city on the Adriatic coast. It became a popular retirement destination in the 4th century for Roman Emperors such as Diocletian. Many of Split's historical and cultural buildings can be found within the walls of Diocletian's Palace. The importance of Diocletian's Palace far transcends local significance because of its level of preservation and the buildings of succeeding historical periods, stretching from Roman times onwards, which form the very tissue of old Split.

TRIBUNJ
The town's old nucleus lies on a small island, which is connected to the mainland by a stone bridge and dates from the 16th century. Several nice beaches west of the village, clean sea and rich flora and fauna make the waters of Tribunj suitable for swimming and underwater safari. Tribunj has the largest fishing fleet in central Dalmatia and therefore is famous for its rich offer of high quality fish, mussels and crabs. Traditional feasts, the Tribunj Night and Fishermen's Night, are organized during the summer season. The Assumption (August 15) and St. Nicholas' Day (December 6) are major religious events.
Tribunj is about a 30- minute- walk by the sea, or 15- minute cycling along the coast (especially recommended March to May when Mediterranean vegetation bloom and enchant you with their scent!!).
NEARBY ISLANDS:
PRVIC: Just a short 10-minute trip away. The island, which can be traversed by foot in a few hours, has two small towns - Prvic Šepurine and Prvic Luka. The island’s visitors are won over by beautiful beaches. There are no cars on Prvic, the only transport on wheels being bicycles. You can walk from Luka to Šepurine in 15 minutes.
KRAPANJ is the smallest and least inhabited island in the Mediterranean covering an area of 0.36 km2 and is approximately 1.5 m above sea level. It is know for its tradition of harvesting and processing sponges. It is 300 m away from the village of Brodarica, its closest mainland... The traditional Krapanj occupation is sponge diving. The Adriatic sponges are highly valued for their beauty and quality. There are ten crews on Krapanj harvesting sponges.
ZLARIN The Island of Zlarin, located a few
miles from the mainland of Dalmatia, is known for its coral jewellery. Blessed
by mild climate and a pristine environment it offers a unique opportunity for
visitors to recharge their batteries. Village of Zlarin offers everything you
may need; two grocery stores, a fruit stand, and several fine restaurants. Zlarin
is, with an area of 8.19 km2, the third largest island of the Šibenik archipelago.
The island is connected to the mainland cities of Sibenik and Vodice by ship
that comes about 10 times a day.
There are many other wonderful places to visit which are slightly further away, but you will find organized day-trips with departures from Vodice. For example: Plitvice Lakes National Park, Paklenica National Park, River Cetina.
